The Importance of You Contributing Towards Saving Water

Research shows that the average Indian uses anywhere between 100-200 litres of water everyday. This is split up between various activities such as bathing, flushing, cooking, washing clothes etc. However, do we really need to use such a large amount of water everyday? Would it be possible to live the same comfortable lives we do, but still create a positive impact on the surroundings around us?

Let’s dive into some simple calculations, it’s estimated that the average bath uses 55 litres of water! Now that’s a big number, especially when most buckets hold between 15-25 litres of water. The data suggests a large amount of people use showers to have a bath, and as we all know, this leads to an excessive wastage of water. By switching up your lifestyle to something as simple as a bucket bath, you would be saving on average, 30 litres of water a day, which could be used by someone else.

780 million people across the world do not have access to an improved water source, and we should be thankful that we aren’t a part of this. Imagine how many lives you could contribute to making better, by using water carefully. I don’t mean it will directly affect any of the 780 million people that currently don’t have access to a good water source (perhaps it will), however it will certainly have a positive impact on the generations to come where, our sustainable use of water allows them the same experience and freedom we currently enjoy with water.

Every revolution starts with a change, and it is much easier if a large amount of people take a small step individually, than a small number of people trying to make up for it by taking larger steps. If everyone contributes towards a good cause, the changes in our lifestyle would be minimal, and yet we’d be creating such better futures for a lot more people.
